SmashMouth NBA is LIVE and FREE TO PLAY!

The NBA 2014-15 season starts tonight and so does SmashMouth NBA Fantasy Basketball!!! For a limited time, it's also FREE TO PLAY!

Go to www.smashfantasysports.com, register and play!

SmashMouth NBA pits you directly vs. your opponent and is easy to play.
  • Challenge an opponent. Your draft is turn-based so you alternate picks.
  • Lineups require 2 Point Guards, 2 Shooting Guards and 4 Forwards/Centers, one each from 8 NBA Marquee Matchups
  • Once a challenge is accepted, the Home Coach is selected at random and picks first (a Smash Pick).
  • The Away Coach then picks an NBA player from same game, same position, opposing NBA team (a Force Pick). That NBA game is then closed.
  • Away Coach picks again (a Smash Pick) from remaining available players.
  • Home Coach then makes Force Pick and you alternate until you each have 8 players per the lineup requirements above.
Now, you're matching wits directly with your opponent. Check it out now, register and play! www.smashfantasysports.com

W8 SmashMouth NFL Pioneer League SmashBoard!

Here we are, already at the 8/17ths point of the season -- damn Bye week screws up everything! -- and the playoff picture is slowly coming into focus. Or maybe I just cleaned my contact lenses. Whatever.

No Thursday game this week -- the newly invoked "Peyton Manning aka LeBron James Rule" in full effect -- so lineups are not due until Sunday at 1pm. Which btw is NOT an invitation to hit up your opponent at 12:30pm Sunday. Really?

RAPID RECAP W7 Pioneer League SmashMouth NFL

This week's big winners were Peyton Manning and GLENN ARONOW (yes, THAT Glenn, the reigning SmashMouth NHL champ). Peyton apparently threw 510 passes in one game, good for well over 3,000 fantasy points, both tearing up the record books. Pretty tough to beat. Wait... 510 career TD passes? Ah, never mind.

But speaking of records, the real story is GLENN anyway, who pulls off not only the double double of Weekly Smash (The Maidzo) with a 295-145 obliteration of MICHAEL WILLIAMS but also serves up a big fat blank sandwich with IND CB Vontae Davis (27 pts) shutting down sub CIN WR Brandon Tate (0 pts) to garner Unique Pick and bank some more cash. Oh and the record? Well, his +150 margin of victory breaks JEFF NIGRO's +149 set Week 1 of last season vs. -- one guess -- MICHAEL WILLIAMS. Ouch, MIKE, what gives? Fortunately for Mike, GLENN did not break the all-time high score record, as a deep search into the SmashMouth archives shows RICHARD BROWNE hanging on with his 298 point (vs 173) destruction of the long lost Ken Calitri in Week 4 of the inaugural 2012 Pioneer League season.

Also note, the Pioneer League schedule maker invokes the "LeBron James Rule" in Week 8 on the LeBron-like Peyton Manning himself, so the SD-DEN Thursday Night Football game is not a Marquee Matchup. W8 lineups are due Sunday by 1pm. Stay tuned for the W8 SmashBoard later today.

Here's the rest of the RAPID RECAP:

W7 RAPID RECAP
MICHAEL WILLIAMS (1 - 6) -- 145
GLENN ARONOW (5 - 2) -- 295
Yep, all of the above still applies.

LOU AURICCHIO (4 - 2) -- 228
JEFF NIGRO (1 - 6) -- 179
It's a long way from W1 of last season, eh JEFF? LOU steps in and continues his hot hand/beginner's luck/rookie roll.

ROB TALLIA (4 - 3) -- 226
LISA CALITRI (3 - 4) -- 152
'Twas a pummeling, no two ways about it.

BILL ROARK (6 - 0) -- 226
LEE FINKEL (3 - 4) -- 193
Last year's Outlier Champ ousts SuperSmash I winner.

CHUCK ROSS (3 - 4) -- 173
TONY D'AMATO (1 - 6) -- 195
A huge step in the right direction for TONY. As would have been a tie.

BILL CRONE (2 - 5) -- 167
JAMIE BURTON (4 - 3) -- 178
JAMIE but just barely.

JOE HENDERSON (5 - 2) -- 196
ROB BAILEY (3 - 3) -- 224
SuperSmash II finalist refuses to go meekly.

JIM GARDNER (5 - 1) -- 249
DeLANDIS BROOKS (1 - 5) -- 155
JIM continues his hot hand as DeLANDIS continues his replication of 2013.

TOM MAIDEN (3 - 4) -- 157
BRUCE WILLIAMS (6 - 1) -- 235
This one started ugly (SmashUp ugly) and ended ugly.

TONY BEDINI (2 - 5) -- 175
VINCE CALITRI (2 - 5) -- 201
Huge season and reputation saving W for VINCE.

JIM PEPE (3 - 3) -- 159
CHRIS PALUMBO (7 - 0) -- 240
CHRIS concedes literally 5 minutes into the 1pm games. How'd that work out?

MARIO HENRY (4 - 3) -- 225
KEVIN CARTER (3 - 4) -- 171
MARIO back in the hunt. KEVIN hunting too but with no ammo.

QUENTIN WALKER (1 - 6) -- 148
CHARLIE ALDRICH (2 - 5) -- 162
Matt Forte. Always Matt Forte.

KEVIN KRUEGER (2 - 4) -- 151
JOHN INCANTALUPO (3 - 3) -- 202
JOHN sends KEVIN hurtling toward SmashMouth NHL.

SmashMatch Of The Week
CRAIG ROSENBAUM (5 - 1) -- 194
ANTHONY ANNESE (4 - 3) -- 190
This one lived up to the pre-season and week-long billing, as CRAIG clips arch-rival ANTHONY in a game that goes right down to the wire and has water cooler ramifications all Tuesday long.

SmashMouth NHL returns!

After a one-year hiatus, which GLENN ARONOW spent polishing his 2013 Pioneer League SmashMouth Cup ad nauseum, SmashMouth NHL is BACK!

Manual leagues will begin no later than December 1 -- and possibly sooner. League fee is TBD, whatever it takes to get going a nice, friendly, knock-some-teeth-out-with-an-errant-slapshot league of no less than 12 iced-up Coaches.

All interested parties should upgrade their dental coverage and e-mail me at jimp@smashfantasysports.com.

Lineups are composed of the following:
2 Centers v 2 Goalies
2 Wingers v 2 Defensemen
2 Defensemen v 2 Wingers
2 Goalies v 2 Centers

Each pairing of above matchups pulled from same game as usual.
SCORING as follows:
Goal = 4 pts
Assist = 2 pts
Shot on Goal = 1 pt
Blocked Shot = 1 pt
Save = 1 pt per 10 saves + 1 pt per 2 Shots on Goal versus opposing Coaches' Centers.

RAPID RECAP SmashMouth NFL Week 5!

'Twas a turvy weekend (last week was topsy, keep up man!) in NFL AND in SmashMouth NFL, although somehow we have 3 unbeaten Coaches remaining.

NOTE: Week 6 SmashBoard following shortly. The Thur game IS amongst the 8 Marquee Matchups, so any picks (up to 2 each) from that game must be delivered by kickoff of TNF. Obvi.

W5 RAPID RECAP
BILL ROARK (4 - 0) -- 237
LISA CALITRI (2 - 3) -- 235
BILL pushes the envelope to seal off a hair-raising W.

ROB TALLIA (2 - 3) -- 177
ANTHONY ANNESE (3 - 2) -- 155
Lotsa pasta, notsomucha scoring.

CHUCK ROSS (3 - 1) -- 218
TOM MAIDEN (2 - 3) -- 161
It's dev vs rev. Dev wins.

CHARLIE ALDRICH (1 - 4) -- 186
LEE FINKEL (2 - 3) -- 238
Someone tell Chicago CHUCK that Da Bears weren't in a Marquee Matchup W5 so Matt Forte's points don't apply. I just don't have the heart to do it. Thanks.

JAMIE BURTON (2 - 3) -- 242
TONY D'AMATO (0 - 5) -- 143
Beginner's luck is no luck at all.

BILL CRONE (2 - 3) -- 159
VINCE CALITRI (1 - 4) -- 261
Sometimes, newbies follow the script and accept their role as fodder for veteran blastings. And for this, VINCE thanks you, collects 60 Maidzo/Weekly Smash smacks while donating 5 to Mr. BILL.

CRAIG ROSENBAUM (4 - 1) -- 220
JOE HENDERSON (4 - 1) -- 227
One unbeaten is felled, tree-like. We await the protestation after his hired forensic accounting team dissects each scoring event ad nauseum.

JIM GARDNER (3 - 1) -- 249
ROB BAILEY (2 - 2) -- 212
Doctor JIM chests up and augments his record.

KEVIN KRUEGER (1 - 3) -- 208
BRUCE WILLIAMS (5 - 0) -- 221
As compelling a matchup as we could conjure with reigning SuperSmash Champ KEVIN falling short vs. early ROY candidate, BRUCE, who's lobbying for a 2-win credit on this one. No matter, 5 - 0 will nicely suffice.

JOHN INCANTALUPO (2 - 2) -- 177
RICHARD BROWNE (3 - 2) -- 240
If 2014 SmashMouth MLB runner-up RICH ran into the Washington Nationals' bullpen in a dark alley, this would be a reasonable facsimile of that meeting.

QUENTIN WALKER (0 - 5) -- 191
TONY BEDINI (1 - 4) -- 222
Perhaps you've heard the phrase "Q score," the celebrity popularity metric? Um, QUENTIN hasn't. TONY lands Unique Pick with Russell Wilson -- and tell me again exactly why none of us other geniuses took him?

MICHAEL WILLIAMS (1 - 4) -- 164
KEVIN CARTER (3 - 2) -- 211
Although KEVIN's lineup submission often resembles the technological equivalent of stone carvings, he does get the W from time to time.

JEFF NIGRO (1 - 4) -- 205
MARIO HENRY (3 - 2) -- 168
The more MARIO analyzes, the less his results make sense. This is the NFL... NOTHING makes sense!

GARY LAZARUS (4 - 1) -- 213
JIM PEPE (3 - 2) -- 176
Not only was JIM subjected to GARY's pontificating bluster on WHY he made each pick, then each pick had to pan out exactly as projected. FML!

SmashMatch Of The Week
GLENN ARONOW (4 - 1) -- 213
CHRIS PALUMBO (5 - 0) -- 219
CHRIS again plays against type and wins.

Stay tuned for W6 SmashBoard!
